A handy tool to have when excavating on sites these hydrocarbon detection strips are essential for indicating the presence of oil or fuels in water. Once a hydrocarbon has been detected the strip turns dark blue, enabling quick and accurate testing of water-filled excavations and bunds for contaminants.
The detection strips work by dipping the strip in water and moving it around for a few seconds. If hydrocarbons are present the strip will change from light blue to dark blue. The percentage of hydrocarbons present will be reflected in the colour change which can range from light specks to an immediate transformation.
Having these strips reduce time delays and costs when excavating on sites by removing the use of third parties for testing and eliminating the chance of fines for hazardous chemicals.
