Agricultural Netting & Agrotextiles
HERMEQ agricultural netting and agrotextiles are technical fabrics, nets and meshes for agriculture, horticulture, construction and landscaping, used to protect crops from birds, insects and weather and to improve the quality of the yield. The ground cover range includes woven and biodegradable weed control membrane in several roll sizes for long-term weed control, moisture conservation and separation of soil from surfacing. The netting range covers anti bird netting, windbreak netting, insect mesh, cherry tree protection netting and multipurpose extruded netting, each matched to the harm it keeps off plants and fruit, from pests to wind, hail and frost.
Crop protection netting
Each net in the range is made for the threat it stops, so the choice starts with what has to be kept off the crop: a mesh that turns birds away lets aphids and whitefly straight through, and a net strung against the wind will not close a greenhouse vent to pests.
Anti bird netting
Anti bird netting protects seeds, crops and fruit from birds that strip seedlings and peck ripening fruit. The knitted mesh is light and supple and lets light and air through, so fruit under it dries off after rain and does not stay damp long enough to mould. Choose it for soft fruit, brassicas and seed beds where birds cause the loss.
Insect mesh netting
Insect mesh netting is a fine polyethylene monofilament mesh that keeps harmful insects out of greenhouses and growing areas and keeps pollinating insects in. It protects plants from the virus spread, malformation and lost yield that insect attack brings, with less reliance on insecticides. Choose it wherever the pest is an insect, with the aperture specified to the smallest pest on the crop.
Windbreak netting
Windbreak netting cuts the force of the wind across exposed crops, orchards and nursery stock. The range covers knitted monofilament nets and knitted tape nets, chosen to the exposure and the length of the run.
Cherry tree protection netting
Cherry tree protection netting is a cover suspended above the trees on a post and wire structure and drawn across when shelter is needed. It protects cherries from frost, rain, hail and wind through blossom, stoning and ripening, the stages when the crop is most easily lost, and its fixings let it be opened and closed quickly through the season. Choose it for cherry orchards that need shelter overhead.
Extruded polypropylene netting
Extruded polypropylene netting is the all-purpose plastic mesh in the range, used against bird droppings and small rodent damage and as support for plants. Choose it for general cover around beds and growing areas, and where the same net has to give a climbing crop something to grow up.

Woven or biodegradable weed membrane
Woven membrane is the choice for ground that will stay covered for years, and biodegradable membrane is the choice for ground that will be cultivated again.
Woven weed control membrane is a UV stabilised fabric balanced between shade, which stops weed seed germinating, and permeability, which lets rain and air reach the soil. It suits permanent planted beds, shrub borders, landscaping schemes and separation between soil and surfacing. It comes in widths up to 4.2 m on 100 m rolls, so a wide bed or a long planting run goes down with few joins.
The biodegradable weed control membrane is made from organic material and is certified compostable to EN 13432. It suppresses weeds and holds moisture, then breaks down fully into organic matter with no synthetic residue, so it never has to be lifted and taken away. Choose it for seasonal crops, rows that will be cultivated again and schemes where no plastic may be left in the soil.
Both membranes deal with weeds growing from seed and from the soil surface. The spreading roots of trees, bamboo and knotweed need a dedicated barrier from the root and weed barriers range.
Agricultural netting on posts and wire
Netting that stays up for a season or longer is carried on posts with tensioned wire strained between them, and the layout follows the job the net does. Overhead cover has to clear the canopy and leave room for pruning and picking, so cherry covers and netting over fruit trees and vines hang from wire run along the tops of the posts, high enough to work beneath. A fixed structure lets the cover be drawn back for harvest and closed again before frost or hail. Windbreak netting is set vertically on a line of posts along the side of the block the weather comes from, with wire along its top and bottom edges to hold the net flat to the wind. In both layouts the high tensile agricultural support wire in the range is the wire strained between the posts that carries the net.

Support wire, planter bags and growing substrate
Agricultural support wire
Agricultural support wire is a high tensile wire developed for fruit and wine growing, greenhouse construction, oyster farming and covering water depots.
Hedge planter bags
Hedge planter bags are UV stabilised woven polypropylene containers for growing hedging and large shrubs, with hook and loop straps for lifting by hand or by forklift. Hedges grown in them travel to site and go into the ground without digging and root balling.
Biodegradable growing substrate
The biodegradable growing substrate is a needle-felt mat made from polylactic acid (PLA) for the hydroponic cultivation of microgreens, salads and herbs. It manages water, keeps the root zone aerated and gives a clean, soil-free harvest, and it is a bio-based alternative to synthetic growing media.

Frequently Asked Questions
Woven weed control membrane is laid under gravel paths, borders and decorative aggregate, where it stops weeds coming through and keeps the stone from working down into the soil. On a gravel driveway the membrane sits beneath the gravel layer, and a gravel grid from the grass and gravel paviours range holds the stone in place under car wheels so the surface does not rut.
Clear and level the ground, roll the membrane out and pin it with steel U pins along the edges and at every join. Overlap adjoining widths and tape the join where weeds could push through. Burying the outer edge in a shallow trench stops wind getting under it, and a covering of bark, chippings or soil holds it flat.
Yes, anti bird netting is light enough to lay directly over low crops, soft fruit bushes and seed beds, with the edges pegged down so birds cannot get underneath. Over taller crops and fruit trees, a frame or posts and wire keep the net clear of the plants, so birds cannot peck through it and the net lifts easily for picking.
Anti bird netting and cherry tree covers come in set sizes, listed on each product page. Windbreak netting, insect mesh and extruded netting are supplied to the roll size the site needs, worked out from the length and height of the run or the area to cover, with the aperture specified for insect mesh and the shade factor for extruded netting.
Yes. As well as cutting wind, windbreak netting is used for hail and frost protection, shading, privacy screening, fruit support and harvesting. Set vertically it shelters and screens a crop, and hung above the plants it shades them and takes the force of hail.
