Road Narrows Right Road Sign / Road Narrows Left Road Sign – these road signs indicate how the road works are impacting the natural traffic flow. These are primarily used to guide drivers away from their standard route, showing which side of the carriageway is obstructed. Road works rarely take place on both sides of the road simultaneously. This is because by keeping one side of the road open and with the correct temporary traffic equipment, it is possible to keep a steady flow of safe traffic through areas where work is taking place. The road narrows left or right signs indicate to drivers which side of the road work is currently taking place on and subsequently which is the temporary route through the area in which works are ongoing. These road signs should be placed between the ‘Road works ahead’ sign and the beginning of the lead-in taper. Make sure that the correct sign (i.e. narrows on left or right) is used.
