Multipurpose Geomat
Multipurpose Geomats are highly flexible Geomats used for erosion control and can be easily placed on both the bed and banks of a dry canal which is continuously exposed to erosion and flooding from rainfall and runoff.
Dense vegetative plant covering on the bed and banks of your canal will provide excellent defence increasing the profile roughness, the sedimentation of solid particles and preventing the detachment of soil – this is accelerated using this three-dimensional Geomat.
The erosion control mat is anchored to the slopes and base with U shaped anchors and then filled with topsoil and seeded. The planting process taken place allows for the grass roots to anchor themselves to both the underlying soil and three-dimensional mat to form permanent protection. Before vegetation begins to frow, this Multipurpose Mat can significantly reduce soil erosion from slopes and eliminate the formation of rivulets and furrows.
Installation:
For slope and channel applications, your area should be free of soil clods, roots, stones or vehicle imprints and all voids should be filled in order to obtain a smooth and compact laying surface for your Mat to fit flush against the ground surface.
Anchor trenches are required to fasten the Geomat to the surface using U shaped pins and staples – the anchor trench should be at least 600mm beyond the crest of the slop and 300mm wide and 300mm deep. The anchor trenches are then backfilled and the unrolling of the Mat is done on the slope it is anchored onto the crest.
Once anchored, the Mat is rolled down the slope and all overlapping areas should be in the direction of water flow. After the Geomat is installed, you must go back over the mat and install additionally required fasteners to ensure it is in intimate contact with the soil.
